We are pleased to
announce that the West Chester Running Club awarded $500 scholarships to three
(3) deserving high school student athletes in June, 2012. The winners include
Rachel Carr from Phoenixville Area High School, Collin Gray from Owen J. Roberts
High School, and Angel Chimal Rodriguez from Kennett High School. Each of the
winners combined scholastic achievement, community service, and an appreciation
for the sport of running in a way that distinguished themselves from all of the
other applicants. Rachel intends to go to Elizabethtown University, Collin will
be attending Yale, and Angel plans to work towards a career with the Federal
Bureau of Investigation. Our best wishes to each of these students.
As a Club, we should all be very proud of the fact
that over the last 12 years, we have provided more than $30,000 in scholarships
to local student athletes. Each year, the scholarship committee that reviews
the applications for the Club Scholarship is amazed at the high caliber of
student that applies for our award.
On a personal note,
we would like to acknowledge and sincerely thank Betty and Bill Dawson who as
part of their recent wedding, graciously decided that, in lieu of wedding gifts,
a donation to the Scholarship fund would be an appropriate manner to celebrate
their wedding. This was a very philanthropic gesture and many of Betty’s and
Bill’s friends and family contributed generously. Thank you, Betty and Bill and
all of those who made a contribution. For additional information on the Club’s
annual Scholarship, please contact Ann Tierney or Dan Holland.
